BGCSM Adult Membership Attracts Tech Leaders & Club Alumni

Richard Grundy left a successful career in corporate America to co-found JOURNi, a nonprofit coding camp for youth. Not only does the tech organization teach kids to code, they take it a step further to show students how to monetize their skills.

When it came time to decide where he would headquarter his startup, he and his partners chose our newly reimagined Dauch Club!

“It was kind of a no-brainer for me looking at the benefits versus the price of membership,” says Grundy. “I honestly wanted to take advantage of that [the price] before it went up.”

Our new Adult Membership model provides a unique opportunity for former Club kids like Grundy to join the Boys & Girls Clubs again as adults. Nostalgia aside, Grundy said that location and convenience also played a part in his decision to become an early adopter in our Adult Membership program.

“Accessibility is important for us too,” says Grundy. “It’s great to have a space like this in the neighborhood where you don’t have to battle for parking.”

Our first co-working space is located on Tireman Avenue on Detroit’s East Side. Easy access to the Southfield and Jeffries (I-96) Freeways and Ford Road make commutes simple. The neighborhood jewel has parking both in front and on the side of the building, and key card access.

Residency at BGCSM helps JOURNi to move forward while giving back. In addition to officing out of our Ponyride workspace, JOURNi will set up shop in our newly minted Innovation Lab to expose our youth to real, bankable, career opportunities in tech.

Grundy says that he thinks it’s important to make use of opportunities like this early-on. “[I wanted]… to become part of the momentum to bring more spaces like this to Detroit neighborhoods,” he says.

Adult Memberships at Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan are the perfect solution for the innovative professional; the person seeking to stand out among similar ideas and constructs. At $40 a month, the value is unmistakable.

Working from our space will place you directly in the path of the Detroit’s continued renewal, while helping to affect that change.
