DETROIT – January 6, 2017 – Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan (B&GCSM) recently announced that it has named Hiram E. Jackson as its new chair of the board. Inheriting the gavel from Tom Hoeg—who served as chair for a record six terms (12 years)—Jackson is the first alumnus to serve as chair of the 91-year-old organization.
Len Krichko, President & CEO, said “We are very honored and proud to have one of our own, Hiram E. Jackson, a community leader, leading our organization. Hiram has been very successful in his career and it is truly inspirational that he is giving back to the organization that he credits in saving his life.”
“It is an honor of unspeakable measure to have been tapped to lead Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan,” said Jackson, who also serves as publisher of the state’s oldest African American newspaper, the Michigan Chronicle and CEO of its parent company, Real Times Media. “I joined the Highland Park facility (now renamed the Fauver-Martin Club) when I was six years old and continued throughout high school. This organization’s dedication to making a positive impact on area youth truly changed my life and helped to shape the man I am today. To now be in the position to continue that legacy and drive impact for the future generations of southeastern Michigan youth is incredible.”
Along with being CEO of multimedia company Real Times Media and publisher of the Michigan Chronicle, Jackson brings a wealth of board experience to B&GCSM as he also serves on the boards for the Detroit Zoological Society, Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, and the Detroit Branch of the NAACP. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
Since 1926, Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan has provided high quality programs for youth, ages 6-18, grades 1st-12th, in our community. Today, we have 10 Clubs located throughout metro Detroit in four counties and serve over 15,000 youth annually through our many programs.
