Thomas E. Hoeg Biography

Thomas E. Hoeg is executive vice president and chief operating officer of Amerisure Insurance Companies, a Michigan-based, regional property and casualty insurance group. Tom first joined Amerisure in 1982 as legal counsel and was promoted to assistant vice president and associate general counsel. He then became vice president-general counsel with responsibility for human resources and strategic planning.

He left the insurer for about two years when he shifted career paths and joined the Lansing law firm of Foster, Swift, Collins & Smith, where he was named a partner. In 1991, he rejoined Amerisure after serving on Governor-Elect John Engler’s Transition Team. At Amerisure, Tom established a new Customer Service Department and was elected to senior vice president of claims and loss control prior to his present role.

A native of Brooklyn, NY, Tom received his bachelor’s of science degree from Northwestern University and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Illinois College of Law. He is admitted to practice law in both Illinois and Michigan. He worked at the Champaign County Public Defender’s Office and then became regional legislative counsel of the National Association of Independent Insurers.

Tom serves on the board of directors of The Horton Group of Agencies, Inc., Orland Park, Ill. He is chairman of the board of directors and serves on the executive committee of Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan. He is past chairman of the Michigan Council on Economic Education and serves on the southeast Michigan board of advisors of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy. He and his wife Renée have four children and reside in Northville, Mich.
