It’s day 17 of my first 100 days as President & CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan and it’s been a festive few weeks. I can’t think of a better way to bring in the Holidays!
On Wednesday, the community came out to the Lloyd H. Diehl Club to celebrate the opening of a brand new fitness facility built by local Planet Fitness franchisee, Bryan Rief.
As part of a Planet Fitness nationwide program , The Jugement Free Generation initiative aims to end bullying while providing a space for teens to work out in a judgment-free and non-intimidating exercise environment.
As if that weren’t enough of a holiday booster, Rief surprised Club Director
Patrice Dickens and team with a $10,000 check to put to good use at the location. Major shout out to the Planet Fitness staff for their generous support and contributions!
Meanwhile, at the Dick & Sandy Dauch Campus, our friends at American Axle flew Santa and his elves in from the North Pole just in time for a jolly celebration jam packed with fun activities for the community – including a karaoke corner, photo booth, hot cocoa stand, and a gift raffle.
But the merriment didn’t stop there. As I mentioned last week, staff development is key as we continue to build a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.
Last week, we took a field trip to EcoTek at TechTown Detroit where the team got a chance to tour the facility, experiment, and ideate on how we might re-imagine our club spaces with cutting edge technology.
And, of course I couldn’t make it through the week without being challenged to a “friendly” game of Foosball by young Madison here.
We don’t need to discuss outcomes right now. Let’s just say, the important thing is not always to win, but to get in the game.
